Himalayas - Part 1

Finally getting round to publishing some of photos from my filming trip to the Himalayas in 2012. I was sent out to Nepal by UK based NGO 'Our Sansar' to document their work helping street children off the streets, in to a safe home and back in to education. My first stop was Kathmandu where I met local representatives of Our Sansar and worked about prepping for the 6 week shoot across the country.
The city sits in the shadow of the Himalayas and the morning temperatures before the sun rises dropped below freezing so early morning filming would have to be worked around the frost that settled on the ground. I wandered out in between meetings around the city, taking photos of the
Pashupatinath Temple sitting above the city, the largest of the Hindu temples in the Katmandu valley.
The temple is a haven for tourists trying to see the many Sadhus who frequent the shrines on the hill, these are holy men who have forsaken all material wealth and travel the country praying and performing rituals living off donations.
The city also seems to be run on porters shifting goods around the many alleys and back roads where vehicles cant enter. These men transport up to 100kg on their backs and at speed, you have to keep your wits about you as they dash around the streets. Below are a few photos of these porters shifting herculean loads around the city.
