Himalayas - Part 3

We made our way to the home of my coworker Mukesh, 10km outside the city for the holy festival of Chhath. The whole town comes out to celebrate with offerings brought to the temple to greet the rising sun. the women of Mukesh's family had been fasting for 2 days and only break their fast at sunrise whilst standing in the lake of the temple. 
        This was an amazing sight as over 500 women made their way in to the water with baskets of offering of fruits and vegetables for the Sun and his wife Usha. As night fell more offerings were given with oil lamps being lit through the village and the eventual fireworks being set off. This went long in to the night and only breaking as the sun rose.
